The Fremantle Football Club has welcomed a decision by the State Government to approve a change of purpose of reserve for the Stan Reilly Centre site.

The Government announced today that it supported the City of Fremantle’s vision for the redevelopment of the Stan Reilly Centre site, a key element of the Fremantle Oval precinct, and had granted it permission to incorporate ancillary commercial activities under a new management order.

Minister for Regional Development and Lands Brendon Grylls said it was an important step in the redevelopment of the site on South Terrace, Fremantle.

Under the redevelopment, it is proposed the site will house an indoor training centre for the Fremantle Dockers and ample space for complementary commercial activities, which could also include a gymnasium and allied health services.

As well as having dedicated spaces, the local community will also have access to the indoor training centre and other football club facilities.

“I am pleased to facilitate the development of what will eventually be a superb multi-purpose centre for the community of Fremantle to enjoy,” the Minister said.

“The State Government is always looking for ways to get the most out of our land assets and this is a great example of a space evolving with its local community. The centre can now grow into a dynamic space for recreational, community and commercial purposes.

“By introducing commercial opportunities to the centre, we are ensuring the economic sustainability of the sporting precinct and maintaining the heritage value of the site. At the same time, we are assisting the City of Fremantle to continue its own growth as a vibrant centre.”

Fremantle Dockers CEO Steve Rosich said that the club welcomed the announcement and was pleased with the support shown by Minister Grylls, his department and the State Government in changing the purpose of reserve for the Stan Reilly site.

“We now have the opportunity to work with the City of Fremantle and key stakeholders to further develop our master plan for the Fremantle Oval precinct, which encompasses the Stan Reilly site,” Rosich said.

“We believe the decision creates an opportunity to achieve a great outcome not only for the Fremantle Dockers but for the wider community.”
