Demons’ Docklands Dilemmas

Melbourne has not won at Etihad Stadium since round 19, 2007 - a losing streak of 12 matches. In fact, the Demons have won just two of their past 21 matches at the venue. Their last victory there came in round 16, 2005. Freo has also struggled at Docklands in recent seasons but it had an impressive victory over St Kilda there in round 4 this year. That win should give Ross Lyon’s men a big confidence boost heading into Saturday’s game.

Memories

Freo will be desperate to overturn last year’s disappointing 89-point defeat at the hands of the Demons at the MCG. That result highlights just how dangerous Melbourne can be, regardless of ladder position.

Defence selection

Zac Dawson could be ready to return to Freo’s defence. This could mean an omission for veteran Antoni Grover, who performed solidly against the Bulldogs before being subbed off following a rough knock.

Short turnaround

Fremantle will travel to play the Demons on the back of a six-day break. Melbourne has had seven days rest and played at the MCG last weekend. Will this be a factor on Saturday?

Unstoppable Pav

Can the Demons contain Matthew Pavlich in this vein of form? The Freo skipper has booted 20 goals in his past four matches and looms as the match-winner again on Saturday. Freo will look to get the ball in quickly to its skipper, as it did in the second half last Sunday.
