Greater Western Sydney’s Jonathon Patton will not make the trip West to face Fremantle at Patersons Stadium on Sunday, while former Freo Docker Rhys Palmer is in doubt to face his old side.

Patton, the No.1 pick from the 2011 National Draft, will be rested as he continues to be nursed through his debut AFL season.

He has played five matches since overcoming pre-season knee surgery, including a tough, physical battle against Adelaide veteran Ben Rutten at Skoda Stadium on Sunday.

"Jonathon Patton hasn't even had a pre-season. He had a trip to Europe for knee surgery, so he won't play this week,” Giants coach Kevin Sheedy said.

Palmer could join Patton on the sidelines after he was heavily concussed against the Crows.

Sheedy said he was prepared to test the mettle of his young list following consecutive defeats over 100 points.

"We want to put the young kids in the pressure positions to see what we've got," he said.

"We can sit them on the bench, we can hide them in a pocket, or we can put them right in the centre square and down the corridor, and that's the way we operate.

"This team has to find that out."
