Ross Lyon has predicted Fremantle fans will see the team play its best football over the next two months.

The senior coach said the lessons learnt so far in the season have been invaluable.

One of those was last Saturday against Collingwood at the MCG when his men fell behind by 40 points early, before a never-say-die attitude saw Freo get to within 17 points at one stage.

Lyon said that attitude would hold the side in good stead over the next nine weeks.

“We never gave up and fought on to the end,” he said on 6PR.

“The easiest thing to do is say ‘We’re getting smacked here’, but to pull it back to 17 points when no one is giving you any hope is pleasing.”

Lyon said the hard work done during that comeback would continue to pay dividends over the coming weeks.

“We’ll be in games over the next few weeks, and because we practised going to the end against Collingwood, when we have to go to the end in winnable games, we’ll be a really good chance to get it done because we’ve practised it even when we’re losing.”

The senior coach said the side had played three good quarters in matches against Adelaide, Richmond and Essendon in the past month, and hoped consistent four-quarter efforts were just around the corner.

“We’re really confident, in the next nine weeks, we can play our best football,” Lyon said.

“We want to learn our lessons, compete and fix our method. We can’t chop the ball up and turn it over like we did early against Collingwood.”

Freo plays the four teams immediately below it on the ladder in the next month, and Lyon said wins would be crucial if the side was to play finals.

“If you’re winning, you blink and you’re in the eight,” he said.

“If you focus on your preparation and you train as well as you can, the scoreboard takes care of itself.

“We want to stand for what we value, which is competing and working hard for each other, and I’m sure we’ll be right in this race.

“It’s an exciting period.”
