Fremantle used five of its six 2008 NAB AFL Rookie Draft selections to recruit WAFL developed players this morning.

The club used its first selection (no. 3 overall) to recruit highly rated Oakleigh Chargers utility Casey Sibosado before turning its attention to a host of WAFL talent.

Although recruited from Oakleigh, Sibosado hails from Beagle Bay, a town just outside Broome in north-west WA.

Claremont midfielder Matt DeBoer was the club’s second round selection (no. 19 overall), East Perth key defender Hamish Shepheard joined Fremantle with its third round selection (no. 34 overall), Swan Districts half back Clancee Pearce was welcomed in the fourth round (no. 48 overall), West Perth midfielder Jay Van Berlo (no. 62 overall) was the club’s penultimate selection in the fifth round before Subiaco defender Greg Broughton rounded out the club’s newcomers in the sixth round (no. 74 overall).

General manager player management Brad Lloyd said Fremantle was delighted with its newest additions to its list.

“We headed into the draft with the view to recruit the best available players and each of our new recruits were rated highly in our planning process for the rookie draft so to have them join us is a fantastic result for Fremantle,” Lloyd said.

“This completes our recruiting program for 2009 that sees the club with 14 new players overall.”
