Fremantle coach Ross Lyon says the club's sole focus is on playing Richmond at the MCG this Saturday rather than looking ahead to upcoming fixtures or playing finals.

"I couldn't even tell you who the next three matches are," he said.

"I can tell you who next week is - Richmond."

Lyon said the season was a marathon and that Fremantle aimed to take it one step at a time.

"The most important games is the next one," he said.

"There is a must win game every week. You can't play in finals until you get there.

"How do get there? You win home and away matches.

"How do you win home and away matches? You prepare daily to an elite level to give yourself the best chance.

"It's as simple as that. It's not rocket science."

The Freo coach said the only way to prepare for any AFL game was to spend each day living it "moment by moment".

"That's the approach," he said

"I'll let everyone else postulate about potential outcomes down the track.

"Anxiety comes from worrying about the future. How do you control that?

"Stay in the present and control the moment and that's what we aim to do."
