The Fremantle Dockers are joining forces with the AFL community to support the rebuilding of local football clubs affected by the recent floods at next month’s NAB Cup round one fixture at Patersons Stadium on Sunday 13 February.

The AFL announced that each match in round one of the 2011 NAB Cup, to be played across the weekends of February 11-13 and February 18-20, will raise funds for those community football clubs who had facilities damaged by the devastating floods.

This is in response to calls from AFL players, clubs and supporters for the football industry to come together and show a united response to those communities affected by the floods, and in particular the sporting clubs that have been impacted. The money raised from the fundraising initiatives will be in addition to the AFL players, the clubs and the competition earlier this month committing a combined $650,000 to the Queensland Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal.

As well as the triangular match-ups between Fremantle and their opponents on the day, West Coast and Hawthorn, a series of fundraising activities will be staged as part of football’s response to the floods.

A 15 per cent contribution from the gate receipts of all fans attending the fixture will also go towards the fundraising effort.

And, all children under the age of 18 who register on-line in advance for round one tickets, will be admitted free.

Some of the activities that the Freo Dockers are getting on board with include the legends and celebrities nine-a-side matches that will be played in the breaks between the round one NAB Cup games against the Eagles and Hawks.

There will also be on-ground supergoal contests during the half-time breaks of the matches.

Plus, non-playing Freo players on the day will be available for autograph sessions with supporters - all the guys ask for in return is a kind donation to go towards the relief effort.

So, Freo fans, make sure you get your ticket to our opening NAB Cup fixture and do your bit to help out this worthy cause.
