Fremantle’s partner club, the Balmain Dockers, are in finals action this weekend in the Sydney Football League.

The Reserves will compete this Saturday in the Division 2 Grand Final, while the First Grade will compete in a Preliminary Final to earn a spot in the Grand Final.

Fremantle coach Mark Harvey had a message of support to the Balmain Dockers teams competing this weekend.

“It’s great to see our partner clubs doing so well around the country,” Harvey said.

“Winning a premiership is a great feeling, no matter what level you’re competing at.

“I wish both sides best of luck this weekend.”

Balmain has already tasted Grand Final glory this year - the women took out the Premiership last weekend.

Victory was sweet for the women, who went through the 2010 season undefeated, only to lose the Grand Final.

They hadn’t tasted defeat in 2011 either, but dropped the Major Semi-Final. After winning the Preliminary Final, there was nothing that was going to stop them this time around.

Harvey said it was a fantastic achievement for the women to win.

“There would have been a fair bit of pressure on them after they lost the first final,” Harvey said.

“To come back and take out the Premiership shows a lot of character and I congratulate them on their effort.

“Hopefully the boys can do the same over the next two weeks.”
