Geelong expects Travis Varcoe and Billie Smedts to be available for selection for this weekend's Elimination Final against Fremantle at the MCG.

Cats physio Mike Snelling told geelongcats.com.au Varcoe was no longer experiencing pain after spraining a ligament in his foot against the Western Bulldogs in round 22.

"He's had a little sprain of a ligament between his fourth and fifth toes. The stiffness of his fifth metatarsal as well as a previous injury that he had a couple of years ago has probably contributed to that," Snelling told Cats TV.

Snelling said the club would ramp up Varcoe's fitness training later in the week.

"If he goes OK he'll progress really rapidly and then be available," he said.

Cats coach Chris Scott indicated Varcoe was more likely to play in the VFL side against Box Hill on Sunday.

Varcoe has managed just one senior game this year, after dealing with an ongoing, but separate, stress fracture in his foot.

Snelling said Smedts would be tested later in the week, after sustaining a broken finger against the Dogs in round 22.

"Billie had surgery on his finger, he's had a little plate put in that finger," Snelling said.

"The finger is healing very well and he's obviously been able to do all his fitness work.

"We'll test him with a bit of ball handling and if that goes well and his wound looks really good then hopefully he'll be available for selection."
