Nat Fyfe could return as early as round nine with the midfielder set to miss one more week due to his hamstring injury, according to high performance manager Jason Weber in this week’s Envision Medical Imaging injury update.
Fyfe took part in a running session alongside Jesse Hogan (calf) on Tuesday and Fyfe’s running load is expected to increase in the coming week.
Hogan and Sam Sturt remain a slight chance to return alongside Fyfe in round nine, with both forwards expected to miss one to two more weeks.
“Nat’s doing really well. Obviously disappointing to have the second occurrence of the hamstring injury, but he’s training really strongly, he’s progressing along and we look forward to having him back soon,” Weber said.
“Jesse’s back on the field, he was on field with Nat this morning and had a run and a kick.
“He’s progressing along the timelines as we have on the injury list and we look forward to having him soon.
“Sam’s got on the field today. He had quite a solid ankle injury up on the Gold Coast. He’s back on his feet and we’re getting him going.”
In positive news for Freo’s defensive stocks, Reece Conca (hamstring) is expected to return this week against Geelong.
“Reece is a test, he’ll train fully this week,” Weber said.
“He had a good weekend training. We look forward to having him back.”
Weber said defenders Hayden Young (ankle) and Griffin Logue (toe) are a chance to play again this season, but will miss at least another two months of football.
“Hayden had surgery last week and the specialist was very clear on the directions going forward. He’s got a dedicated timeline and a goal to work towards,” Weber said.
“Specialist review of Griffin Logue’s situation has given us some real clarity on how to manage his toe going forward.
“We had some really good results in the past with athletes like Aaron Sandilands, so we’re very hopeful we will be able to see Griffin back later this season.”
Weber said defender Alex Pearce was not expected to play in 2020.
“Alex had that very challenging fracture last year. The specialist advice is to take our time with that one, which we will be doing,” Weber said.
“Alex has been an absolute professional through the entire process and he continues to do so as a leader of the team.
“He’s training very hard and we’re looking forward to progressing him through the off-season.”
