Fremantle forward Lachie Schultz was reminded of a familiar feeling from his debut game last season, after kicking the winning goal against St Kilda on Saturday at Metricon Stadium.

Following the jubilation on-field, Schultz was late to reach the Fremantle changerooms post-match to sing the Freo song with his teammates due to a post-match interview with Fox Footy.

Schultz entered the changerooms to raucous applause and adulation from his teammates.

“I wasn’t expecting that, it was like playing my first game again,” Schultz said.

“I had a few Gatorades thrown on me, but it was good for Blake Acres as well to get his first win against his old side.

“I’m so proud of the way we played…it worked out perfectly.

Schultz described feeling ‘very nervous’ with the ball in his hand as he lined-up for goal with scores tied late in the final quarter.

“I was very nervous but that’s my job - I’m here to kick goals and put pressure on, so I was relieved when it went through,” Schultz said.

“We didn’t come here for one win, we wanted to leave on a good note,

“To to be able to leave the hub with two wins and finish it off like that gives us a lot of hope heading into next week.”

The 22-year-old was proud of his teammate’s efforts after a slow first quarter that saw Freo concede seven goals to the Saints.

Schultz said some ‘words and bumps’ went the way of former Docker Bradley Hill, after Schultz lined up alongside him on the wing at the opening bounce.

“All credit to the boys in the way we came back after that slow start,” Schultz said.

“To come back in the second quarter and play the way we did for the rest of the game and even hold them off at the end with that last charge,

“We just wanted Brad to know it was going to be a long day for him,” Schultz said.

“We had a few little words for him and a few little bumps to let him know it wouldn’t be easy, but it’s all in the spirit of the game!”
