Sean Darcy runs at Fremantle's HPC on Tuesday

Sean Darcy could return to football this Saturday against Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium as he recovers from a minor knee injury.

The ruckman sustained the injury in round two and missed last week’s clash against Port Adelaide on Saturday at Metricon Stadium.

Darcy ran at Fremantle’s hub on the Gold Coast on Tuesday and high performance manager Jason Weber said Darcy would be a test for selection.

“Sean’s really rebounded well,” Weber said.

“He’ll have a run this afternoon to tick off a few things and, hopefully, we’ll have him into team training on Thursday and a test for the weekend.”

Forward Sam Sturt will miss around a month of football after scans confirmed an injury to his right ankle, which he sustained against Port Adelaide.

“Sam got his foot caught under him in a contest on Sunday that has given his ankle a nasty tweak,” Weber said.

“He’s going to be around three to five weeks at this stage and we’ll get him back to training as soon as we can.”

Weber said Stephen Hill was unlucky to miss Freo’s clash with Port Adelaide.

Hill had recovered from a quad injury but sustained a cork to his calf during Thursday night’s training session, which led to the midfielder/defender’s withdrawl from team.

“Stephen copped a really nasty cork in main training last week and he was moving along well,” Weber said.

“He’s recovered from that, he’s had a run this morning and we’ll get him into training later in the week and available for match committee.”

Blake Acres’ first AFL game for Fremantle will be at least one more week away due to a calf injury.

“Blake’s progressing slowly. He had a little bit of a calf strain and cork in our last training session in Perth and that hampered him a bit when he got to the Gold Coast,” Weber said.

“He’s likely to miss this week and we’ll get him on deck for next weekend.”

After recovering from an ACL injury, Stefan Giro will miss more time after sustaining an ankle injury in a training session for non-selected players on Sunday.

Fremantle are waiting on the results of scans before knowing an expected duration for the injury.

“Stef was returning into the last week of his ACL program. He was in some team training drills over the weekend and got a foot caught underneath him so he’s just having that ankle investigated at the moment,” Weber said.

“We’re hopeful it won’t hold him up too much but we’ll run those KPIs as we get him back.”
