Sydney ruckman Shane Mumford admits Aaron Sandilands has him beat for size and strength, so he hopes athleticism can be his advantage in Saturday’s preliminary final at Patersons Stadium.

Three-time All Australian ruckman Sandilands is 12cm taller and 15kg heavier than the Swans’ premiership big man.

Mumford, who played on the Freo ruckman as a 21-year-old in his Geelong debut, said he’d have to try and use run to beat his opponent.

“I’ll be trying to get him around the ground and try to make him work,” Mumford said.

“I think I’ve got a little bit better tank than him, so hopefully, between me and ‘Pykey’ (Mike Pyke), we can run him into the ground and wear him out by half-time.”

But Mumford knows how difficult the task will be against a man he rates as the best ruckman in the AFL.

''In the ruck, by far he is the toughest to beat,'' he said.

''He can almost stand there in the middle and not even jump, and still beat you sometimes.”
