*rankings are at Freo and players must have played at least four games to qualify.
Highlight – Seeing the Freo champion return to the field for his first game of the season was a highlight in itself for the club and its fans.
Summary – Sandilands did what he had to do to get back on the field and he then worked patiently to build up his form. While we didn’t see what he is capable of in the home and away season, the finals were a completely different story.
Finals
Qualifying Final – 9 disposals, 31 hitouts, 1 goal
Preliminary Final – 13 disposals, 6 marks, 33 hitouts
Grand Final –13 disposals, 44 hitouts
Summary – After playing his first game of the season in round 15, Sandilands slowly began to build up form. Despite doubts from many outside the club, the three-time All Australian unleashed a ruck master-class against his hapless Geelong opponents to help steer Freo to a memorable victory. ‘Sandi’ was also very good in the Grand Final.
Outlook: The big man proved at the end of the 2013 season that there’s still quite a bit of football left in his 211cm frame. If he can get through the pre-season unscathed, it will set him up for a big 2014.
