Tom Sheridan produced a quality four-quarter effort to win the WAFL Player of the Round award in Peel Thunder’s loss to East Fremantle at East Fremantle Oval on Saturday.

Senior development and assistant coach Simon Lloyd said the 19-year-old played with intensity and effort throughout the entire game.

“Overall he had five clearances and applied effort to join in. Tom stayed really close to the contest and showed an improved effort to tackle and constantly have repeat efforts,” Lloyd said.

Tom Sheridan (PT) 28 disposals (10 kicks, 18 handballs) 1 goal
Tom played inside mid and had a solid four-quarter effort. He ended up getting the ball 28 times and had a balance of contested and uncontested football. He was really clean with his ball handling in congestion and showed improvements in his composure with his handball. He kicked a good front and centre goal in the first quarter.

Josh Mellington (WP) 18 disposals (14 kicks, 4 handballs) 1 goal
Josh played the majority of the game as an inside midfielder. The positives of the day for Josh were that he carried the ball between the arcs from centre half back after getting in good positions to receive by hand. His use after quarter time was efficient.

Viv Michie (PT) 33 disposals (14 kicks, 19 kicks)

Viv had 33 possessions playing as an inside mid. He was solid across the four quarters, showed strong effort in winning nine clearances and constantly used his legs to break free. He demonstrated some strong tackles and showed some solid two way run. It was really good to see that he finished with three rebounds from defensive 50 through good defensive support run.

Tanner Smith (PT) 8 disposals (5 kicks, 3 handballs) 4 marks
Tanner played key forward and had shorts stints in the ruck. Over the four quarters his defensive pressure was good, particularly his run and chase. He looked to give the ball to kickers from marks and frees for. When he did have stints in the ruck he used his run to become dangerous and make sure he kept the opposition ruckman accountable.

Matt Taberner (PT) 13 disposals (9 kicks, 4 handballs) 5 marks, 3 goals
Matt played forward and played with effort and competitiveness. His constant movement made him hard to defend. He took two strong contested marks and three uncontested. He played with some aggression and constantly marked the ball at the highest point. Overall he ended up kicking 3.2, which could have been five goals. Matt is continuing to build on his game.

Josh Simpson (EF) 21 disposals (9 kicks, 12 handballs) 4 marks

Josh played forward for the majority of the game but went to the wing and half-back for a brief period in the second half, where he had an impact. The positive for Josh's game was that he showed strong defensive skills with his chase and tackle forcing turnovers. He showed strong line at the contest with 50-50 ball. Overall we are pleased that Josh is demonstrating the defensive parts of his game.

Max Duffy (EF) 17 disposals (9 kicks, 8 handballs)
Max played the majority of the game as a high forward. He showed some improvement in the contested situation, keeping his line at the ball and his use was good. In the first term he demonstrated strong offensive transitional run to set up a goal for East Fremantle. The positives for Max were his 50-50 contests and the fact that he was getting closer to the contest to be used as an option.

Alex Forster (PT) 15 disposals (10 kicks, 5 handballs) 5 marks, 4 tackles
Alex played in defence against East Fremantle's smalls and deep on the resting ruckman at times. He was able to release his opponent into congestion to give Peel Thunder’s defence some depth. He worked hard to stop the ball exiting Peel's forward 50 and managed to effectively get used on the rebound.

Alex Howson (EF) Reserves 10 disposals (6 kicks, 4 handballs) 3 goals
Alex played as a deeper forward with a stint in the ruck. In the last couple of weeks Alex is really starting to hit the scoreboard, he kicked three straight and worked hard with his off-ball run into space at different times. We were pleased with the fact that he showed good forward pressure in the second quarter with a strong tackle and he took a strong contested mark in the third quarter, which resulted in a goal.

Lachie Neale played for Peel Thunder reserves as Swan Districts had a bye.
Lachie Neale, 43 disposals (23 kicks, 20 handballs) 9 marks
Lachie played for Peel Thunder reserves after not playing for close to a month. He played as an inside mid and collected 43 possessions. He took nine marks and ran hard throughout the game. His positives were that he was very clean with his hands and feet. He ran to help out in defence and gather the football on the rebound. Lachie has worked very hard through the rehab process and it's great to have him back playing football again.
