Forwards

Josh Mellington (WP) – 15 disposals (11 kicks, 4 handballs), 3 goals

Josh played high forward. His run was positive, where his patterns would move high up the ground and release fromstoppages or on transition. On the day, his ball use was very good with some sound decision-making and he finished with 3.1.

Max Duffy (EF) – 8 disposals (6 kicks, 2 handballs)

Max played as a high forward, where he showed a much improved work rate and attitude on previous weeks. He worked high up the ground and released really hard back to crumb. His defensive work rate was much better where he chased hard from behind. Unfortunately, he was injured early in the third quarter and was out for the rest of the game.

Josh Simpson (EF) – 19 disposals (9 kicks, 10 handballs), 6 marks, 1 goal

Josh looked very dangerous and was highly active as a forward. He threatened to take control of the game in the second quarter, in which he kicked 1.3. He missed 3 set shots, two from close range. Showed good running patterns and took a number of strong contested marks, where he looked really confident in the air. The highlight for Josh was some really good forward pressure, which was illustrated by a big run-down tackle in the last quarter.

Matt Taberner (PT) – 18 disposals (13 kicks, 5 handballs), 8 marks

Matt played as a high running forward and led to some intelligent positions at and away from the ball carrier. Compared to last week, where he dropped a number of marks, he took some strong marks out in front, among eight for the game.  Probably the best was a grab in the last quarter, where he was running at full tilt with some strong pressure from behind. It was a nice grab out in front on the wing. There were a number of aerial contests where he was able to bring the ball to ground and allow the smalls to get to work. Overall, Matthew is impressing as the weeks progress and he really showed something in his second league game.

Defenders

Alex Forster (PT) – 6 disposals (4 kicks, 2 handballs)

Alex played deep in defence on the Claremont talls. He was often opposed toChad Jones and he competed very well in the air. He used the ball nicely inpossession, as he always does. Alex will focus on bringing the same defensive effort to every game and increase his attacking involvements.

Alex Silvagni (C) – 15 disposals (3 kicks, 12 handballs)

Alex played as a key back, where he put his body on the line, pressing up well to stop Peel’s exits. As always, he was very good in the one-on-one contests.

Alex Howson (EF Reserves) - 10 disposals (8 kicks, 2 handballs)

Alex played as a key back for the whole game. He took a couple of good contested marks in defence and at times gaveEast Fremantle reserves good bounce out of the backline. We’ll look at him building on this as the weeks progress.
