The centre will house Fremantle’s new elite training and administration facility.
“Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss yesterday confirmed funding for $342 million in projects nationally,” The West’s report said.
Cockburn mayor Logan Howlett told The West he had always been confident of funding being approved.
"We are waiting for any more information now that we need to provide or work that we need to do to get the sign off and the money into our bank account," he said.
"We had been working with the previous government and the opposition in the months before the September election shoring up our proposal and the benefits it provided to the community and we had very positive responses from both."
Fremantle Dockers CEO Steve Rosich said the club was pleased that the Coalition Government had resolved to honour the $10 million funding commitment for the project, which was initially approved by the Regional Development Australia Fund.
“The City of Cockburn’s regional physical activity and education centre at Cockburn Central West – which will be home to the Fremantle Dockers new elite training and administration facility – is an important community project,” he said.
“The world class facilities at Cockburn Central West will place the club at the absolute forefront of integrated elite sporting and community facilities in Australia. The Fremantle Dockers look forward to continuing to progress the project with the City of Cockburn.”
