Five Talking Points ahead of Port
In-Spurr-ational goal, white at home, stop the Boak, Zac’s 50 and 2012 crowd record in sight
With Hayden Ballantyne a chance to miss Saturday night’s game against Port Adelaide, defender Lee Spurr put his hand up for a small forward role with his goal against Melbourne last weekend. Unfortunately for Lee, while his celebration of the goal gained Ballantyne’s approval, his career total of one goal and his excellent play in defence all season may count against him.
Freo white at home
Fremantle will wear the white away jumper at home against the Power to celebrate the 2013 membership record of 43,880 and acknowledge the vital contribution of the club’s members and supporters. The players’ jumper numbers also will be comprised of hundreds of fan photos. In other news, Ryan Crowley’s white wristbands may not stand out as much as they usually do at Patersons Stadium.
Stop the Boak
Travis Boak had a great audition to earn the Crowley tag in his last game. The Port captain amassed 35 disposals and three goals in a match-winning display for his side against Gold Coast on the weekend. Boak should get to know Crowley a lot better by the end of the night, but to help break the ice, Ryan is originally from Victoria, he is a Liverpool fan in the English Premier League and he enjoys fine dining.
Zac hits 50 in fine form
Zac Clarke plays his 50th AFL game on Saturday night in arguably the best form of his career. The athletic ruckman has been near best on ground in the past two games and will look forward to a clash with another emerging young ruckman, Matthew Lobbe, who had 59 hitouts two weeks ago.
2012 crowd numbers in sight
Fremantle is set to surpass 2012’s home attendance total in Saturday night’s game. Last season 364,842 fans attended our home games at an average of 33,167 per match. The club has had 341,359 people attend the 10 home games in 2013 to date, meaning we require only 23,484 attendees this weekend to beat last year’s number.
