FREMANTLE chief executive Steve Rosich was keen to ensure his club did not rest on its laurels after falling short in its first-ever Grand Final appearance.

In his fifth full season in the role, Rosich was in no mood to celebrate the success of the Dockers this season, instead imploring the football department and the administration to strive to get better.

"A lot of people have worked really hard," he said.

"Most noticeably our players, our coaching group and everyone associated with our football department and everyone within the broader club.

"The challenge is there to keep working hard and to improve again."

The team that once celebrated finals appearances will now only be satisfied with the ultimate prize.

"That’s what we're here for, to be a premiership winning club," Rosich said.

"We're playing regular finals now, we've play finals three times in the last four years and won a final each of those years.

"The challenge is to come back again and win finals."

Coach Ross Lyon echoed those thoughts when he spoke to the players in the rooms after the 15-point loss.
"I thought Luke Hodge's speech was of note," Lyon said after the game.

"Just what Alastair (Clarkson) said to them last year, that there are some modifications that we can make to improve and aim to be back up here next year.

"I think it was really pertinent. We spoke about that and, not to congratulate ourselves too much, but it was pretty good year.

"But we walk away disappointed, knowing we need to improve to get what we want."

Lyon believes the key for success in 2014, is for his team to be prepared to do the work again.

"We think we've got some real growth in us but everyone is saying that," Lyon said.

"There are no guarantees. The aim is to do the work again because that's the critical mix, do the work."

All Australian defender Michael Johnson said the Dockers would learn the lessons from Hawthorn's experience over the last 12 months.

"You could see how Hawthorn responded to losing to Sydney last year," Johnson said.

"They came out firing in 2013.

"We’ll review this game and it's up to the boys to switch back on over the break and decide when they want to get going again.

"I know a lot of boys are hurting right now and we'll come back to pre-season training wanting to overturn the loss today."
