If Fremantle is to emerge victorious at Simonds Stadium on Saturday, a number of key Geelong players must be contained.

It starts in the midfield, where captain Joel Selwood has been in a remarkable run of form lately.

Selwood has the most kicks inside 50 for the Cats this season with 82, and he also leads the club with 258 contested possessions, 97 hard-ball gets, 112 clearances, 127 tackles and 35 score assists.

While Selwood is Geelong’s driver in the middle, it’s in defence that the Cats are at their attacking best.

Harry Taylor and Corey Enright both rank in the top 15 for rebound 50s in the AFL this year, while Andrew Mackie is at the top of Geelong’s indicators for both rebound 50s and inside 50s, highlighting his importance.

And when Geelong come out of their defensive 50, they are the best in the league at turning it into an inside 50.

The Cats have done that 245 times this year, and they’ve also scored an AFL best 74 goals from rebound 50s.

Brownlow Medallist Jimmy Bartel ranks fourth in the AFL with 20 score launches from defensive 50.

The Cats have an array of attacking weapons, but it’s their inspirational captain in the engine room, and their rebounding defenders who pose the biggest threats come bounce down on Saturday.
