WAFL Watch: Round 18
Find out how our players fared in the recent round of WAFL action
Viv played as an inside mid, with short spells as a high forward. He had a really strong start with a number of clearances and had a lot of the ball in the first quarter. We were happy with his strong effort around stoppages and in congestion. We felt that in a team that was under manned against Perth he stuck at it and won his fair share of contests.
Craig Moller (PT) 9 disposals (1 kick, 8 handballs) 35 hitouts
Craig played in the ruck and key forward. He had 35 hit outs and directed the ball well to his teammates having an influence with his ruck work. Craig followed up his ruckwork with tackling pressure, having five tackles for the game. When he got into big man positions down the line he gave a good contest and bought the ball to ground when needed.
Peter Faulks (PT) 14 disposals (6 kicks, 8 handballs) 2 marks
Peter was opposed to Brennan Stack where he did a good job considering Peel’s defence were under siege for most of the game. Stack only kicked the two goals for the game. We were very pleased with Peter's defensive pressure and his positioning on his opponent when on the lead.
Alex Forster (PT) 22 disposals (12 kicks, 10 handballs) 4 marks
Alex did a good job in defence, playing a tight checking role, where he shut down his opponents with good physicality and smart positioning. He got a lot more of the ball in the second half where he gave Peel some drive out of defence. Giving the team some run and bounce. Overall, a positive performance for Alex.
Josh Mellington (WP) 25 disposals (19 kicks, 6 handballs) 8 marks, 2 goals
Josh played as a high forward for the majority of the day with a rotation inside as a midfielder in the third quarter. Josh had 17 possessions in the first half and had a strong impact physically around stoppages where he was able to influence with physical pressure, lead strongly and attracted the ball. We were happy with Josh's effort finishing with a fair amount of the ball and playing well in West Perth's loss.
Haiden Schloithe (SF) 28 disposals (15 kicks, 13 handballs) 5 marks, 1 goal
Haiden played three quarters as a high forward and midfielder before being moved onto the wing in the fourth quarter. He worked hard when South Fremantle had the football where he ran hard to the open side and through the corridor into space. He provided South Fremantle will a lot of run and carry. Haiden had a purple patch in the third quarter as a forward that sparked four scoring shots through constructive handball and effective use by foot.
Alex Howson (EF) 9 disposals (7 kicks, 2 handballs) 5 goals
Alex played forward and worked hard all day providing an outlet. We were pleased with a couple of ground balls and he converted well kicking five goals. Over the last couple of weeks we have felt that Alex has been able to build his game and took some contested pack marks which we were pleased with.
