WAFL Watch - Round 19
Find out how Freo's players fared in the recent round of WAFL action
Josh played as a high forward for the majority of the day opposed to Adam Selwood. He played a very team orientated game in regards to his use and attitude to his teammates, rewarding running players by using them in open space. He failed to capitalise in front of goal, kicking 1.3 for the game. As in previous weeks, he showed good physicality and pressure off the back of stoppages.
Viv Michie (PT) 32 disposals (22 disposals, 10 handballs)
Viv played inside mid opposed to Roach and Faulkner. His showed strong effort with his contested ball and his run. He had five inside 50s by pushing hard forward at the right time.
Jesse Crichton (PT) 26 disposals (11 kicks, 5 handballs) 8 tackles
Jesse played inside mid and wing and was good when the ball was in his area showing quick feet and cleanness at stoppages with eight clearances, four from centre square bounces. The constant focus for Jesse is to work hard from contest to contest as a midfielder and use his legs to carry him forward and drive to the next contest.
Alex Forster (PT) 12 disposals (6 kicks, 6 handballs) 6 marks
Alex played back with a brief spell forward. He kept his opponents in check for most of the game. Alex used the ball well and we were pleased with a strong full chested tackle that was laid. The constant focus for Alex is on fierce contests in the air and at ground level.
Hayden Crozier (PT) 22 disposals (16 kicks, 6 handballs) 7 marks, 2 goals
Hayden played high forward and wing in a solid first-up effort having not played for three weeks. He showed some strong release run on turnovers and kicked two goals. He showed poise in what was a close game.
Peter Faulks (PT) 8 disposals (3 kicks, 5 handballs)
Peter played back opposed to Dale Garlett. He stuck to his task, holding his opponent goalless for three quarters. He played a close checking game and demonstrated strong spoils. Peter needs to focus on offensive rebound out of defence as in previous weeks.
Haiden Schloithe (SF) 23 disposals (13 kicks, 10 handballs) 5 tackles
Haiden started the game well playing as an inside mid where he worked hard inside the stoppage, owning the space. He faded through the second and third quarters where he was moved into the forward line. He was a lot more involved in the fourth quarter where he worked hard at stoppages and around the contested ball gaining a couple of clearances. Haiden's focus is on four-quarter efforts, which he has shown he is capable of.
Josh Simpson (EF Reserves) 15 disposals (10 kicks, 5 handballs) 1 goal
Josh started as an inside mid in wet conditions. His focus throughout the day was to stay close to the contest and focus on putting his head over the ball, which he did well. His running patterns were good in regards to defensive transition where he constantly looked to get goal-side of his opponent and get into good outlet positions on the switch. Overall it was a positive game for Josh and he will look to build on it this week.
Alex Howson (EF Reserves) 5 disposals (4 kicks, 1 handball) 1 goal
Alex played out of the goal square for most of the game and had minimal influence compared to his good form in previous weeks. The positives for the day for Alex were his strong chase in the first quarter and a couple of launches at the contest, one where he took a strong mark and the other where he created a contest.
