What are your thought son the game?

Ross eluded to it that we certainly wasted some opportunities not only straight in front of goal but probably with out execution going into our forward line and forward structure certainly wasn’t were it should have been which made life challenging at times but certainly felt as though we fought back strongly after half time and arrested a lot of momentum and had some opportunities as the game work one to really capitalise but we fall short and lick our wounds. It’s a really bitter pill to swallow with all the hard work and sacrifice that it takes just to get to this point but reality is we weren’t good enough. We need to refresh and rejuvenate but reload again because they haven’t been easy to get to. It’s taken a lot of time to get here and it’s going to take a huge amount of effort and hard work again to get back

Matthew how are you feeling?

It’s hard to describe the feeling, really numb, annoyed frustrated all the emotions that are associated with a loss but I guess when it’s the ultimate prize at the end it’s heightened even further. I’m really proud of the group, outside all of those raw emotions. We’ve done so much, matured so much and grown so far so I’m really proud of the efforts of a lot of people at the football club. My teammates particularly but absolutely all the people that are associated on the outside that work so tirelessly to get us and give us the opportunity,

What did you make of the missed opportunities in front of goal?

You’re going to have to ask the guys that didn’t execute. I was one in the second quarter, I missed a set shot. The wind was tricky, absolutely but it certainly comes down to being able to take the moment, seize the day and execute it. Clearly we’ve got some really hard lessons to learn on that front.

How hard did the midfield work today?

I think the guys in the middle got to work extremely hard and we started getting some clearances back on our terms. The ball started coming into our front half and we were able to lock it in there and get some repeat entries and give us a chance to score and get the momentum back in our favour. At the start of the last I think we might have had a couple of clearances but certainly they were able to really lock it in their forward half and it made it extremely challenging for us to get some momentum back and arrest what was a powerful response from Hawthorn in the start of the last quarter.

What are you thoughts on Hawthorn?

Further to Ross’ comments about congratulating Hawthorn they were terrific, they have been the stand out team for the best part of two seasons and they taught us a lesson. They were better than us, the reality is that we are going to have to get better.

Did you play on Brian Lake?

I played on him at times, but I had Gibson as well for quite some time, particularly most of the second half. He’s a good player, congratulations to him for moving across to Hawthorn and getting the job done both individually and as a team today. I think they hand over quite well, he played on a variety of players and in the end he sort of played as their seventh defender for most of the second half after Gibson came to me.
