Lyon prepares for a loss
Ross Lyon goes into every game with a worst-case scenario at the forefront of his mind
The Freo senior coach constantly reminds fans and the media that there are no easy games of AFL football.
This week’s opponents Brisbane sit 17th on the AFL ladder and have just come off a 45-point defeat to GWS at the Gabba.
But Lyon will be treating the Lions no differently than he would any other side in the competition – as a team well-capable of winning Saturday’s game.
"I always think we're going to lose, and that's how I prepare," he said.
"We always plan for the best that the opposition can give.
“I've never rolled up to a game thinking we are going to win or smash anyone."
Lyon pointed to recent results as an indication of the toughness and unpredictability within the competition.
“We saw how hard it can be, North (Melbourne) go to Adelaide favourites and get beaten, Collingwood (lost) to Bulldogs,” he said.
“Lions beat Bulldogs, Bulldogs beat Collingwood, GWS beat Lions.
“There are no easy games. That’s our approach, we respect all.”
