The Peel Thunder Football Club has announced senior coach Cam Shepherd will remain in the position in 2015 after he signed a one-year extension to his contract.
This year marked the first season that the Fremantle Dockers Football Club entered a full WAFL partner club model with Peel.
Under the agreement, all players on Fremantle’s list had Peel as their host WAFL club, which has allowed Freo Docker’s not playing at AFL level to play together at one WAFL club as opposed to being spread across the nine WAFL clubs.
Peel Thunder’s board of directors unanimously endorsed Shepherd’s contract extension and chief executive officer Bill Kostandas was thrilled to have continuity.
“The hard work that Cam and his assistants put in throughout the week and on game day shows that we as a club are heading in the right direction,” Kostandas said.
“Cam’s stature as a senior coach has grown significantly and it made perfect sense from our club’s perspective that the cohesiveness, synergies and the development of the playing group should further enhance in 2015 under Cam’s guidance.”
Fremantle general manager of football operations Chris Bond said Freo was pleased to have Shepherd stay on as senior coach at Peel.
“We’ve worked closely with Cam and the Peel Thunder Football Club since the partner club model began and we are pleased with the progress that is being made,” he said.
“Cam has impressed with his professionalism and his dedication to ensuring both the Fremantle Dockers and Peel Thunder Football Clubs continue to benefit from the arrangement.
“We look forward to working together for the rest of this season and in 2015.”
