Former Fremantle board member Peter ‘Bink’ Phillips was awarded the Con Regan Medal during the Doig Medal presentation dinner at Crown Perth on Saturday night.
Regan was Freo’s first football manager. After his passing in 2007 the club created the Con Regan Medal to recognise outstanding service and dedication to the Fremantle Football Club.
Recipients are considered outstanding individuals who are viewed as role models and whose contributions to the club demonstrate leadership and vision widely acknowledged in the greater football community.
The first recipients of the Con Regan Medal were his wife Beryl and then-coach Chris Connolly at the 2007 Doig Medal.
Until this year, West Australian football great and former Freo board member Tony Buhagiar was the most recent person awarded the Medal, in 2009.
‘Bink’ Phillips was an inaugural board member. He and wife Bronte were two of the club’s staunchest supporters.
Phillips was largely involved in commercial and sponsorship matters and was instrumental in attracting sponsors at all levels to the Fremantle Football Club.
The words on a plaque at club headquarters in the swimming facility named after the Phillips’ captures their contribution to the Freo Dockers. It reads:
“History will record that few have done as much for the Fremantle Football Club. Tireless, loyal and passionate supporters since the very foundation of the club. Their commitment, humility and selflessness has been a wonderful example to all.
The Fremantle Football Club will always be indebted to them.”
