Nathan Fyfe says Fremantle’s ball use hasn’t been good this season and he admits he’s been one of the main offenders.

Comparative statistics between 2013 and the first six rounds of 2014 show a decline in disposal efficiency by Ross Lyon’s men, particularly by foot.

Freo kicked the football at 67.1 per cent efficiency last season, including at a clip of 69.3 per cent from round 18 up to the Grand Final.

But after the first six rounds of 2014 the team’s kicking efficiency has dropped to 63 per cent.

Fyfe himself has gone from 54.7 per cent last year to 51.7 so far this season.

He said the team has lacked poise on its way to a 3-3 record.

“Clearly, our use needs to improve,” Fyfe said.

“It’s been a focus for us all year.

“The guys will continue to work on it, skills and ground balls are a real focus for us at training this week.”

Fyfe, who sat out games in rounds 3 and 4 because of suspension, did not point the finger at any teammates, but he judged his performance so far this season harshly.

“I’m probably a little bit fresher than some of the other guys, but again, I’m still building and I’m one of the culprits of burning the ball, so that’s a focus for me as well,” he said.

Fremantle will go into Sunday’s Carlton Draught Derby against West Coast off a nine-day break, which Fyfe said would be welcomed ahead of a big contest.

“Derbies are always big occasions and this will be no different,” he said.
