A whole new game, says Mundy
David Mundy knows Freo must bring its best to ANZ Stadium for Saturday’s Qualifying Final
Freo defeated the Power by eight points after a scintillating third-quarter effort set up the win.
Mundy said the performance, which came off a six-day break and having travelled to Brisbane the week before, highlighted Freo’s resilience.
“It’s something that we’ve displayed numerous times this year,” he said.
“We’re a professional group and diligent in our recovery and I fully expected a great hit-out by the boys against Port.”
But the brilliant midfielder warned that would mean nothing if the side didn’t bring its absolute best against the Swans at ANZ Stadium on Saturday.
“We’re going to be travelling and we know it’s a good side,” he said.
“The Port game gives us a lot of confidence but we know this week’s a whole new game.
“We’ve got to start again and bring our game plan and our pressure… but we’re up to the challenge and the boys are really pumped.”
Mundy had one of his quietest first halves of footy this season against Port, but he lifted immensely in the second half to be a major driver behind Freo’s huge third term.
“I was really ordinary in the first half, I felt like I let my teammates down,” he said.
“I felt that in the second half I was a bit better, but I still think I’ve good a lot to improve on next week (against Sydney).”
A further boost to Freo’s chances will be the inclusion of midfield superstar Nat Fyfe who returns from a two-week suspension.
Mundy said he’d welcome his on-ball partner’s return.
“He’s definitely a good player,” he said.
“He’ll help out, around the stoppages especially, and it will be great to have him back.”
