Six-day break no excuse: McPharlin
Heard the words ‘anyone, anywhere, anytime’ before? Luke McPharlin has
That mantra is exactly the one Luke McPharlin says the team will take into Friday night’s blockbuster with the club’s 2013 conquerors Hawthorn at the MCG.
Fremantle enters the game having had one less day of preparation than the Hawks, on top of travelling to Melbourne. It also played its last game in wet conditions, which are considered tougher on the legs.
But all of that is irrelevant to the All Australian defender and his teammates, who have long bought into Lyon’s ‘no excuses’ philosophy.
“It doesn’t bother us at all,” McPharlin said.
“That sort of thinking is a thing of the past with us.”
Talking points ahead of Hawthorn
McPharlin said the proof was in the pudding, pointing to the club’s record under Lyon.
“We’ve certainly been able to demonstrate that, regardless of when we play, who we play and in what conditions, we can continue to bring the brand of football that we’ve been doing for a long time now,” he said.
The 32-year-old watched the Hawks’ come-from-behind win over Essendon last Friday night, a game that the reigning premiers had led by more than five goals in the third term.

The Bombers appeared to have done enough when Paul Chapmen booted them nine points in front deep in the final quarter.
But Hawthorn responded with two quick goals to snatch the victory, an effort McPharlin said highlighted their best attributes.
“That’s why they are the premiers and a quality team,” he said.
“They are able to draw on that when a game is in the balance, and they certainly proved that last week.”
McPharlin reiterated the theme at Fremantle this week that Friday night’s contest had nothing to do with the 2013 AFL Grand Final.
“It’s only about growing and improving for us, we’ve put the grand final to bed a long time ago,” he said.
“We come up against a great team that’s in great form on a Friday night in Melbourne and that presents an enormous challenge for us.
“It’s an excellent opportunity to again showcase our effort and our method and, hopefully, get the job done.”
