On one wing of Fremantle Oval on Tuesday morning was the main group of players taking part in Freo’s first training session of the week.

It included Matt de Boer, who looks to have recovered from his knee injury and will put his hand up to return in Saturday’s Carlton Draught Derby.

Watching closely from the other side of the boundary fence was the Perth media and a gathering of fans.

On the far wing was a heartening sight for the club and its supporters.

Stars Michael Johnson and Luke McPharlin ran around the boundary without any apparent discomfort. The All Australian defenders were in good spirits and appear to be progressing nicely.

Michael Walters was also running nearby. He had a steely look of determination as he continues his rehab from ankle surgery.

The team will have a closed training session on Thursday morning – its last run before taking on West Coast in Carlton Draught Derby 40.
