Nathan Fyfe has been named to play against Collingwood in Friday night’s season opener at Etihad Stadium.

The star midfielder had been in some doubt because of a knock he sustained to his knee during the NAB Challenge.

Freo have named 20 of the 22 players that represented the club in last year’s AFL Grand Final.

Only Zac Clarke and the suspended Nick Suban are not in the current team selected to run onto a packed Etihad Stadium.

The emergencies for the match will be Clarke, Clancee Pearce and Melbourne Demons recruit Colin Sylvia.

Collingwood could not consider key forwards Ben Reid and Jesse White because of calf injuries.

Fremantle general manager of football operations Chris Bond said the Magpies were still a major scoreboard threat because of the quality across the side.

“They’ll score,” he said.

“They are a team that has some great exciting young talent, so we don’t think that’s going to be an issue for them and we can’t fall into that trap of thinking a couple of key players out means that others won’t stand up.

“They’ve got a lot of good young players and their midfield is obviously really potent.”

Bond added Fremantle were excited to launch the AFL season against Collingwood.

“Obviously, the first game of the year is really important to our club and our brand, but at the end of the day it’s another four points that we need to win and we need to make sure that we get the season off to the right start,” he said.
