Luke McPharlin is the only inclusion for Sunday’s Indigenous Round match against the Western Bulldogs.

The All Australian defender replaces the injured Matt de Boer in the 22 for the Etihad Stadium clash.

The emergencies for the game are Garrick Ibbotson, Colin Sylvia and Brady Grey.

Freo general manager of football operations Chris Bond said McPharlin, who has missed the past two games with a quad injury, trained strongly this week.

“He’s done all the sessions,” Bond said.

“He’s been really close previously so we’re super confident that he’ll get through the game.

“He hasn’t shown any issues at all during the week.”

Bond said Sylvia and Grey were performing well at WAFL level.

“Brady’s played a variety of roles, back, on-ball and forward, and Colin as well, on-ball and forward, has played a significant role,” he said.

“Unfortunately Peel aren’t playing this weekend, but they’ll do a really solid training session and continue to push for selection.”

Ibbotson was a key player in defence in 2013, but injury has kept him out of the team since the tail end of last season.

Bond said the athletic defender was closing in on full fitness.

“From his point of view, he came back from a shoulder injury, he missed a few weeks in regards to that,” he said.

“He’s been able to get some fitness back and some strength back in that shoulder and he’s going to be real close to 100 per cent.”

Sunday’s game is part of the AFL’s Indigenous Round, which Bond said was incredibly significant not just to Freo’s eight Indigenous players and the club, but to the entire AFL.

“I think the AFL do it brilliantly throughout the course of what they’ve implemented over the years,” Bond said.

“We’ve got a real proud tradition in regards to the Indigenous culture at our club dating back to when the first players started in 1995.

“We’ve had different players talk to us over the years and I know it’s really significant to our playing group.”
