Young Freo midfielder Brady Grey won’t play again this season because of a back injury.

The Tasmanian had been named as an emergency for the senior team on a couple of occasions this season after some strong form at Peel Thunder.

Sports science manager Jason Weber said it was an injury that Grey had been drafted with and added he’d be put in cotton wool until next pre-season.

“Being the workhorse that Brady is, he’s probably overdone things a little bit in recent weeks,” he said.

“We’ve decided to rest him and get him right for pre-season next year on the back of some fantastic work that he’s done this year.”

There was also bad news for Kepler Bradley, who hurt his hamstring in the WAFL last weekend.

“Unfortunately, ‘Kep’ suffered a hamstring injury on the weekend when he went forward for Peel,” Weber said.

“At this stage, doctors are just assessing the radiological reports and we hope to be able to put a time frame on that real soon for him.”

Weber revealed injured stars Garrick Ibbotson and Stephen Hill were expected to be available after Freo’s bye.

“Garrick’s trained strongly on Tuesday morning,” he said.

“Leading into the game against St Kilda he’ll be unavailable, but we’ll look for him straight after the bye.

“’Hilly’ we’re just taking a conservative approach.

“He also trained strongly on Tuesday morning and we’d anticipate him back straight after the bye.”

Defenders Luke McPharlin and Alex Silvagni will push for selection this week

“Alex had a significant chest injury which now appears to have resolved,” Weber said.

“We’ll be looking to trial him through for the rest of this week and see if he comes up for match committee.

“Luke is not dissimilar, he had a small calf on the back of his return from Darwin.

“Again, he trained really strongly and we hope to make him available.”
