Fremantle ruck/forward Rory Lobb is hoping to be part of a tall three-pronged attack in 2020, alongside teammates Matt Taberner and Jesse Hogan.

Lobb said the trio hadn’t played a lot of football together but is hoping that they will feature regularly in Fremantle’s forward line in 2020.

The 27-year-old said both Taberner and Hogan bring great running and marking prowess and would be a challenging match-up for opposition teams.

“We haven’t played much footy as a three with ‘Tabs’, Jesse and I,” Lobb said.

“Our game plan really supports the isolation of the talls, so it’ll be really exciting to see if all three of us can get out there together and get that chemistry.

“We’re all one-on-one threats and contested marking players.

“You can’t really man up on all three of us I wouldn’t think, so having all three of us out there (this year) would be good.”

Friday morning’s contact session featured match simulation drills as coach Justin Longmuir ramps up the training sessions as the countdown to the Gold Coast continues.

Lobb said his fellow teammates have impressed on their return to the club.

“That was our first match simulation since we got back, we had a couple of drills on Monday but nothing like we had today,” Lobb said.

“It felt really good to have a hit out and see where everyone is at.

“We’ve actually got more numbers out on the track, and the boys have come back really fit.

“I’m happy with how everyone’s footy is going at the moment.”

Lobb believes the wet and windy conditions in WA this week have proved as ideal preparation for the potentially dewy Gold Coast conditions.

“I think we’re having a few twilight games on the Gold Coast anyway so it’ll probably be a bit dewy,” Lobb said.

“(It has been) good for us to train in the rain and get a feel for it.

“If you can handle a wet footy, you’ll probably be good when it’s dry.”

Lobb said the playing group has their sights firmly set on facing the Brisbane Lions in 15 days, and redeeming themselves for their round one performance against Essendon back in March.

“We’re excited to get going, we lost against Essendon and let ourselves down in the first three quarters…but had a strong finish,” Lobb said.

“We’re just hoping to carry that through and play a four-quarter effort (against the Lions).”
