Live the Dream, which is proudly supported by Decmil is a once in a lifetime opportunity for 16 young Australians to become immersed in the culture of the Fremantle Dockers Football Club and ‘live the life’ of an AFL player for five days.
Live the Dream offers participants a rare opportunity to develop skills and behaviours, which can deliver long-term benefits to the individual and their local community.
The program will include a tour of Fremantle headquarters and Patersons Stadium, an boot camp session at the Irwin Army Barracks located in Karrakatta as well as leadership and health and well being training sessions.
The Live the Dream program commences on Friday 11 July with Fremantle players Paul Duffield, Tommy Sheridan, Hayden Crozier, Stephen Hill, Chris Mayne, Nick Suban, Zac Clarke and Colin Sylvia as the participant’s mentors.
Meet Jessica Kinsman
Jessica believes the Live the Dream program will give her an insight into what it’s like to be an elite athlete.
She currently plays for East Fremantle Woman’s Football Club and is involved in the West Australian Football Commission talent academy and her dream is to play in the Victorian Woman’s Football League.
The 17-year-old, who attends Santa Maria College, is hoping to build on her leadership skills during her time in the program.
“I will be the backline captain next year and would like to coach Auskick,” she said.
“I believe this program will help me with those skills.”
Being the only girl in her junior football teams has at time been tough for Jessica.
“Sometimes the boys would give me grief, but it has taught me that I should never give up, and put 100 per cent into everything.”
Jessica’s team manager for her AFL School Sport program, Narelle Scott said Jessica displayed an excellent attitude toward her training attendance and behaviour during her time in the program.
“She was always organised and punctual and willing to put in the extra time to develop her skills and knowledge of the game,” she said.
“She always looked for positives and approaches challenges with maturity and enthusiasm.”
“The Live the Dream experience will enhance Jess’ skills and confidence being a leader among her peers."
