Fremantle will go in unchanged for the first time this season when they take on Carlton in Saturday’s AFLW preliminary final at Ikon Park.
AFLW senior coach Trent Cooper said that midfielder Dana Hooker has been cleared to play, however the team is still waiting on a final fitness test for young forward Sabreena Duffy.
“For the first time this year we’re going in unchanged. We’ve selected the same 21 as last week and Katie-Jayne Grieve and Laura Pugh will be the emergencies again,” Cooper said.
“Dana had scans on Monday and she’s fine. She’ll play 100 per cent.
“Sabreena, we’re not sure. She didn’t train on Tuesday but we’ll give her as much time as possible with her ankle. We’ll give her a good test and hopefully, we can confirm her as an in for the game.”
Cooper said that Fremantle should be more than wary of Carlton, who despite winning two games less that Fremantle in the regular season, have hit form at the right time.
“We’ve completed the review and they’ve been really impressive,” Cooper said.
“I remember watching their first game against North Melbourne, and they didn’t have a good day that day, but since then they’ve been really good.
“Round two, they played Adelaide and led them by three goals going into the third term. They’ve kicked the highest score against Adelaide for the year.
“Since then they’ve won four out of their last five. They’re in really good form and the more I watch them, the clearer it gets that we really need to deliver our best football if we’re going to beat them.”
Cooper said that the Fremantle playing group are in great spirits heading into the big game.
“The girls trained really well on Tuesday,” Cooper said.
“The spirits are great, they’re feeling really good and we’ve hit form at the right time of the season, so it’s not like we’re tiring, we’re ready for the game this weekend.”
