'Fearless at trade table'
Mark Harvey says Fremantle will actively look at players from other clubs during trade week
FREMANTLE coach Mark Harvey says his club will be fearless at the trade table this year as it looks to rebound from a disappointing season, refusing to rule out a potential move to recruit sacked Brisbane Lions' forward Brendan Fevola.
Harvey said Fremantle had held no discussions about handing Fevola an unlikely AFL lifeline, but the coach noted that his recent performances would have caught the eye of AFL clubs.
Fevola kicked 10 goals for VFL club Casey Scorpions at the weekend, including four against Carlton stopper Michael Jamison, taking his tally in the last six matches to 43.
"It's an interesting choice, isn't it? He's playing quite well," Harvey told 6PR.
"I see on the weekend he played really well against Jamison for a half.
"I guess that'll open the eyes up of some of the AFL clubs, but we’ve had no discussion about Brendan at this stage."
With Nat Fyfe, Nick Lower and Garrick Ibbotson all sent for shoulder surgery this week, Fremantle's injury list has swelled to 18 players. A further five - including Alex Silvagni, Antoni Grover and Jayden Pitt - face fitness tests this week.
Harvey said he expected to have 25 players to pick from against the Western Bulldogs.
Fremantle's finals chances were officially ended last Friday night against Collingwood and the club will immediately turn its attention to list management following Saturday's clash with the Dogs, who will be farewelling Barry Hall and Ben Hudson.
"Next week you go through the review process with everyone and the players will be told what was thought of their season," Harvey said.
"A lot of our guys are contracted, but having said that there might be as many as 12 that aren't.
"We'll go through their season and where we see them going in the near future."
Harvey, who said this year's injury crisis would help Fremantle when making decisions on players' futures, said the club would be "fearless" at the trade table.
"There may well be other players that we look at from other clubs," he said.
"I think we've been pretty good at that over the last three or four years if you have a look.
"Not a hell of a lot happens all the time, but I think strategically we've been able to gain a lot of wins and respect through what we've been doing there."
