Fremantle midfielder Kiara Bowers has been recognised by her peers, named as the AFLPA’s Most Courageous Player for the 2020 AFLW season on Monday.
A winner of the club’s fairest and best in 2019, Bowers led Fremantle for disposals in 2020 with an average of 17.6 per game.
She also led Freo for contested possessions, metres gained, intercept possessions and inside 50s.
But it was her tackling that stood out above all, with her total of 99 tackles 48 more than teammate Katie-Jayne Grieve, who was ranked second in the league.
Earlier in the day, Fremantle teammates Sabreena Duffy and Roxy Roux were named in the AFLPA’s 22under22.
A previous winner of the 'Most Courageous' award, Adelaide co-captain Chelsea Randall wrote a tribute to 'Turbo' on the AFL Players website.
"Turbo’s a remarkable athlete and she’s been through a hell of a journey in terms of the setbacks and injuries she’s gone through, and it’s just great the rest of our AFL community can actually see what she’s capable of doing," Randall said.
"Her attack on the footy is second to none and she’s a ferocious athlete and she’s got incredible closing speed."
"I can definitely say I have copped one or two of her hits or been smashed to the ground by her more than once."
