Fremantle defender Lee Spurr has described his teammates as a close-knit group ready to stand up for one another once they cross the white line.

Freo takes on Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday 3 May and Spurr said the team is prepared for some close attention from Demons midfielder Bernie Vince, who is touted to tag Nat Fyfe.

Talking points: Freo v Melbourne

“We will definitely stand up for our players, we fully support every player on the field,” Spurr said.

“We’re a brotherhood and we stick together, regardless of who our opponent is, we don’t get intimidated.”

Melbourne impressed against Richmond last Friday and Spurr believes it will be another tough challenge despite Freo’s undefeated start to the season, which sees them on top of the ladder.

“They were certainly really good (against Richmond) and they’re a really competitive side,” he said.

“You know that you’re going to rock up and have a contest, any Paul Roos’ coached side delivers great effort, so we expect a fierce contest from them.”

Sunday’s match will be just the first of two visits to the MCG during the home and away season and Spurr sees it as another building block.

Freo's magic MCG moments

“We’ve got an opportunity to grow and improve…we haven’t been playing perfect football,” he said.

“At times, we’ve played some good football but with a lot of stuff to work on.

“We get to go the MCG twice a year and it’s really important to play well because that’s where they play the finals.

“We’re an ‘anywhere, anytime’ team, but when you get the opportunity to play there you certainly want to play well.

“It’s where you want to be on the last day, so I think every player regardless of any team enjoys playing at the MCG, it’s the home of football.”

Bounce down is at 1.10pm local time.
