600 school children gathered at Fremantle Oval on Friday night for the Freo Footy Skills semi-final.
The competition involved three events, which are run for years four to six in WA primary schools, with the winners from the afternoon’s contests qualifying for the grand final.
This year’s grand final will be the curtain raiser Fremantle’s round 21 match against Adelaide at Domain Stadium on Sunday the 14th of August.
In conjunction with the West Australian Football Commission, schools across the metropolitan area and ranging from as far north as Geraldton to Donnybrook in the south, hold competitions and nominate the winners to take part in the semi-final.
Kye Benson, from Richmond Primary, said he enjoys the social side of the competition.

“I like getting together with my friends and just doing it for fun,” he said.
“My favourite event is the long bomb.”
On Friday afternoon, the students took part in Freo Kwik Kick, Freo Fast Ball and Freo Long Bomb.
Freo Kwik Kick involves the students kicking in pairs to see how many successful passes they can complete in three minutes.
Freo Fast Ball is an exciting team handball event, where teams’ of six students handball through a zig-zag formation as quickly as possible.
The Freo Long Bomb simply involves students trying to kick a football as far as possible.
