Fremantle can look forward to a full-strength Nat Fyfe to start the 2020 AFL season with the two-time and reigning Brownlow Medallist feeling positive about his recovery from his off-season shoulder surgery.
Fyfe is taking part in full training and said he’s not being held back in the sessions.
“I’m progressing as well as could be hoped. I’m coming off a shoulder reconstruction so that’s all put to bed and I’m back to full strength,” Fyfe told SEN.
“This is my fourth (shoulder surgery), so you get a pretty good understanding of where the line is and how far you can push it and where you’re at in comparison.”
Fyfe was half tongue in cheek when rolling out the clichés about Freo’s progress this pre-season, but the 28-year-old was clearly buoyant about the young group’s progress.
“From a training component, we’re flying, we haven’t lost a game yet and everyone is feeling really confident,” Fyfe said.
“The high five count is through the roof and the environment and vibe is all good. We’re progressing well.”
Fyfe said he was embracing working under new coach, Justin Longmuir.
“It’s just different, Justin is a connector, he’s a person who likes to build relationships, get to know everyone and build that culture, build that environment,” Fyfe said.
“His view on the game is different to what Ross (Lyon’s) was. Justin has a view that really looks at opportunity and ways to score and potentially a bit more free-flowing, and that’s the way we’re training at the moment.
“That’s partly because of the way the game is going, so all teams are trying to look at new avenues to score, open it up and have less congestion around stoppages.
“He’s different, we try not to compare, there’s a lot of good elements about what we’re doing and the proof in the pudding will be once we start playing games.”
