Peel Thunder reigned supreme against Swan Districts with a 21-point win on Saturday at Rushton Park.
Peel were underdogs heading into the round and held their own in the first quarter, applying pressure to the Swans in the forward half.
The first quarter was a struggle with the Thunder trailing the Swans by one-point.
Ruckman Sean Darcy played forward, a strategy that paid off big time for Peel, as he kicked four goals.
Defender Brennan Cox said that the team’s focus was applying pressure to the Swans.
“We just focused on pressure around the ball and helping our defence so they would kick it long,” he said.
Swan Districts fought back in the fourth quarter, kicking four goals in the first 10 minutes of the quarter.
Peel struggled to stop the burst from Swans until a goal from Darcy got the Thunder back in the game.
“I thought the team played very well,” Cox said.
“In the last quarter we dropped off a little bit but we held our lead in the end and got the win.”
The Thunder will go up against Perth Demons next week at Lathlain Park on Saturday 20 May.
