Nat Fyfe is confident Freo tagger Ryan Crowley can do the job on whichever star Richmond midfielder he plays against on Saturday.

The Tigers boast a formidable engine room, headed by emerging superstar Trent Cotchin, while All Australian contender Brett Deledio and young gun Dustin Martin are also dangerous.

Fyfe paid tribute to Crowley’s efforts this season, which had seen him quell the influence of a number of AFL midfield stars.

"He (Crowley) is really important for us,” Fyfe said.

“It is one less player that us midfielders have to worry about.”

Fyfe said it was often a case of a coin-toss for Freo’s coaches when the opposition had a number of quality players Crowley could play on.

"Last week it would have been the (Patrick) Dangerfield or (Scott) Thompson one," he said.

"Richmond have obviously got a really potent midfield with Cotchin and Martin playing some great footy.”

The young star said Crowley had “the perfect build” to play the crucial tagger role for Freo.

“He has got a big tank and he is pretty quick and one-on-one he is quite competitive as well," Fyfe said.

"He is a really selfless player and has had a big year for us.”

Meanwhile, at Ross Lyon’s media conference today, the senior coach said it was always difficult to decide which midfielder he sent Crowley to on a weekly basis.

Lyon said he often tended to leave it to the last minute before telling Crowley who he plays on.
