Despite a strong opening quarter with a 13-point advantage and 21 tackles amongst the team, the Freo Dockers just couldn’t keep up with the Crows.
Fremantle midfielder Dana Hooker said the girls were disappointed in the result and their form so far was not what they pictured before the opening round.
“It wasn’t what we expected but we’ve just got to bounce back and go again next week,” she said.
“It’s all we can do: work hard on the track again and work on those little things that let us down.
“We just need to play four quarters of hard footy and not just a good half or a good three quarters.”
The afternoon saw a match filled with physicality with the Crows being very hands-on with Fremantle from the get-go.
“I think they came out there to try and ruffle our feathers early and I thought we handled that quite well in the first half,” Hooker said.
“I thought we were equally as physical back and we were really hard and relentless in the contest.”
Hooker was one of three major ball winners for Freo, racking up 20 disposals during the match.
She felt she worked hard but wasn’t completely happy, especially after a fourth loss for the team.
“It’s all about the team’s performance,” she said.
“It doesn’t really matter how many disposals one person gets, it’s about getting a good spread across the board and we need a team performance and that will help us get over the line.
“I felt like I worked hard on the field but I could always do more.”
Next week will see the Fremantle Dockers in their first double-header of the season when they take on Collingwood at Rushton Park before the men playtheir JLT Community Series match.
“I think the double-header will bring something extra to the atmosphere which would be nice,” Hooker said.
“We’ll head back down to Cockburn this week and work really hard again on the track and recover well so we can bounce back next week.”
