The Fremantle Dockers’ Starlight Purple Haze game against the Gold Coast on Saturday will have an added importance, with the honouring of two life members of the club.

Luke McPharlin and Paul Duffield retired following the 2015 season and will be acknowledged in a lap of honour at half time during Saturday’s game.

Talking points: Freo v Gold Coast

McPharlin played 256 AFL games and while he came into the league as a key forward, he quickly established himself as one of the dominant defenders of the 2000’s.

In a career that spanned 16 seasons, McPharlin was named All Australian in 2012, and won Mark of the Year in 2005 as well as providing a highlight reel of other candidates.

The defensive stalwart was inducted as a Fremantle Dockers life member in 2010 and sits second on Freo’s all-time games played list.

Paul Duffield epitomised hard work and persistence in his time at Freo, spending two years on the rookie list, before working his way into the side and playing a total of 171 games for the club.

Duffield made his debut against St Kilda in 2006 and was a reliable presence across halfback throughout his career and was inducted as a Fremantle Dockers life member in 2014.
