Sylvia blows away the cobwebs
Colin Sylvia was happy with his intra-club effort after a limited pre-season
The former Melbourne Demon has had a limited pre-season because of some setbacks and only resumed full training last week.
Sylvia admitted his skills were not as sharp as he would have liked in the intra-club, but he was happy just to be out there.
“I was a little bit rusty with the skills, but it was good to blow the cobwebs out and have a hit out,” he said.
“I’ve had a few interruptions over the pre-season, but it’s all come together at the right time for me with my body in terms of adjusting to a new program.
“I’ve felt a positive shift in my body, so it was good to get out there and work on the basic principles that we’ve been practising over the pre-season. It was really enjoyable.”
Sylvia played on both the purple and white teams and was used in a number of roles, including as a forward, on the wing and as an inside midfielder.
“The coaches gave me a look at it from all different areas,” he said.
“I’ve just got to get used to the game plan completely.
“I’m almost across everything now, so not far to go, hopefully.”
The 28-year-old was also impressed with the turnout at Patersons Stadium.
Around 3000 fans made their way for the intra-club match and the preceding family fun activities at Kitchener Park.
“It was great to see such a big Freo crowd,” he said.
“They’re clearly a passionate bunch and they’ve definitely made me feel welcome.”
