Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon has dismissed the notion that Sunday’s game is a test of where his side is at compared to the back-to-back reigning premiers Hawthorn.

Lyon said the reality of the game at Aurora Stadium is that it is just another opportunity to win four points.

“I don’t get into theoretical models, it’s another game of football and it’s four points,” Lyon said.

“It’s obvious they’re (Hawthorn) a very good team and we’ll be challenged.

“Opposition is really faceless in a sense, each week, because it’s about how you play and how you prepare.

“It doesn’t matter who you play.”

Hawks still potent without Roughead

Lyon said the number of upsets in the competition this year showed a team's primary focus should be on its next game and no further ahead.

“If you go on perceptions, assumptions and past performances you can find yourself hurt pretty quickly,” he said.

“Our footy is about ourselves and improving.”

Fremantle play Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium on Sunday 12 July. Bounce down is at 3.20pm local time.
