Fremantle defender Zac Dawson says he’s well prepared for the 2016 season after struggling with injuries during last year’s campaign.
“I [feel] really good and had a really good off-season,” he said.
“I was able to do all of my training here in Fremantle so I’ve come in really prepared and ready to go.”
Known for his lock down defensive role, Dawson says he is looking to increase his kicking capabilities this season after averaging only two kicks per game in 2015.
“I think overall the team is going to focus a bit more on that so I’m just trying to improve my kicking and trying to improve my overall skill level.
Dawson becomes a dad
“[I’m] trying to be more of a leader this year than last year, taking Luke's [McPharlin] role.”
Dawson was only able to manage five senior games last season, including both finals games after breaking his thumb in May while playing for Peel Thunder.
He says the addition of Harley Bennell and return of captain Matthew Pavlich has the playing group excited for the 2016 season.
“We’ve always got high expectations on ourselves,” he said.
“We really pride ourselves on our effort.
“Everyone’s really excited to see how we go but we’ve got a lot of work to do before we get there.”
