Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon has warned the 22 players who line up against Port Adelaide on Saturday that he expects complete effort and intensity.
The club may rest up to 11 players, with six already confirmed, for the round 23 fixture that has no bearing on the final make-up of the top eight.
Matthew Pavlich, Luke McPharlin, Aaron Sandilands, David Mundy, Stephen Hill and Lee Spurr will be rested.
The situation is similar to the final fixture of the 2013 season, when Fremantle rested a number of players against St Kilda.
The Saints won that match by 71 points.
Lyon said that display was not good enough and warned players who come into the side to play Port that they need to make the most of the opportunity.
“We’ve already spoken to the group that we weren’t thrilled with our performance against St Kilda in 2013,” he said.
“Our measure of performance in our effort and intensity…there is no backing off.
“We’re were really unhappy with people that were given an opportunity at the end of 2013 and didn’t perform with the intensity and effort we were looking for and desire."
Who's in the mix to face Port?
Lyon said Fremantle still wanted to win its final regular season fixture, no matter who lined up.
“We’re not saying we’re not going over there to win,” he said.
“We aim to win and play with intensity.
“We’ll do a fierce review on it like we normally do.
“We’re not backing off but, in reality, some key personnel will miss, because we think to have them fresh and healthy for the finals will help us.”
