Where Freo can win it

Execute the press

Freo assistant Peter Sumich, who looks after the forward line, says Richmond likes to play a quick brand of footy designed at getting the ball into Jack Riewoldt as fast as possible.

This all begins at the stoppages and from defence, where Freo’s press will be called upon to give Richmond’s exit players nothing.

“They like to get their midfielders back across their half-back line and rebound from there,” Sumich said.

“Their stoppage work is very good, too. They’re about good clearances, quick kicks out, run forward and get it in to Riewoldt.

“They like to do that very quickly.”

Turnovers

Fremantle must force the Tigers into turnovers, and then capitalise.

Richmond is 15th in the AFL for conceding a score after a turnover, allowing the opposition to convert 23.3 per cent of the time.

However, the Tigers don’t give up the ball easily. They’ve coughed it up 605 times this season, which is the second lowest in the league.
